Rocky Mountain National Park

Cross another thing off the summer fun list!  Today we went to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Trail Ridge Road had just opened 6 days ago, it was its latest opening in the last 20 years and I have always wanted to get up there when they still have all the snow and so today we did!  And it was awesome!  First we stopped to see some elk.  It was so beautiful!

We also saw some Bighorn sheep.  We haven’t seen any the last couple of times we have been up here so that was cool to see.  And speaking of bighorn sheep,  Tanner and Brynn love climbing all over the rocks and are little sheep themselves!  Our main reason for coming was to see Trail Ridge Road and all the snow so we didn’t do any hiking this time, oh and we still have a non-walker that weigh A LOT when carried!  But Trail Ridge Road was worth it.  It was so cool to see all that snow!!  Amazing!!!

These little monkeys had so much fun playing in the snow.  It was cold and windy and wet – but fun!!!

So last August we came up and Tanner, Brynn and Don had so much fun climbing these rocks and Tanner was looking forward to doing it again.  Well today the rocks looked like this!

That rock Tanner is standing on above is all you can see now.  It is crazy how much snow is still up there!  Sorry Tanner we will have to come back in August to climb these rocks again!

We made it to the top!  Here we are at the Alpine visitor center.  A lot of it is still snowed in and not open.  Including the bathrooms – the pipes were still frozen!

Again the top picture is from today and the bottom picture is from August.  We are standing against the same rock wall.  Well actually today we couldn’t get close the the brick wall because of falling snow, so we are as close as we can get to it!  Crazy!!!

What a beautiful place!  I am so glad that we live so close.  I can’t wait until all of our little legs can go hiking and we can go on some real hikes here.  Right now hiking from the parking lot to the viewing areas is enough for us.  And we learned today that the McIntosh’s will NOT be taking any long road trips until everyone can walk,  is potty trained and can get in and out of a car seat by themselves!!!!
