Bathroom Demolition!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that we had three house projects that we wanted to do (we have since added another, so that makes 4 projects!), well project number one (the smallest project!) has finally begun! Operation retile the bathroom began today with a sledge hammer to rip out the old tile! And why are we retiling the bathroom you ask, well it all began back in December (yes 3 months ago, December) when Tanner went down to the basement one morning and came back up with wet socks. I asked how his socks got wet and he said he stepped on something wet in the basement! That is NEVER a good thing to hear. I ran to the basement and found quite a large wet spot on the carpet, looked up and saw a nice wet spot on the ceiling – G-R-E-A-T! Just what we wanted to deal with right before Christmas, a broken pipe in the ceiling! After further inspection it turned out to be not that bad, just a leaky seal around the toilet! Easy fix – right?? Wrong! The real problem is that the tile around the toilet was placed unevenly and that is causing the leaky toilet. So who messed up the tile in that bathroom – oh, that would be us!! Hey, it was our FIRST tile job. We have greatly improved since then. So we have been living without a toilet in our main bathroom since December but we finally got our rear ends in gear and ripped out the old tile floor today, but we didn’t just stop there – why we are retiling the floor we might as retile the shower also (and get a new sink and countertop and toilet – I guess you could call this a whole bathroom makeover!) Don is planning on having all the retiling done in a week. I have learned from other home remodeling projects to multiply whatever he says by 3! So here’s hoping that we have a nice, new shiny bathroom by Easter!!

(and yes that is where our toilet has been sitting for the last 3 months, hence the reason the kids have taken over our master bath tub!)

Tanner is finally earning his keep around here! He really was a great helper today, Don was so proud! Tanner is going to be quite the handy man, he will know how to tile and install a toilet by the age of 6! And please note he has all his protective gear on!

One more public apology that needs to be made: So this bathroom is the main bathroom Tanner uses and for the last several months it has smelled like pee and we kept on getting mad at Tanner for not "aiming” well and making a mess and basically blaming him for the smell, only to find out that the toilet has been leaking due to our mistake! Oops! Sorry Tanner!!!

Oh boy...nothing is ever as simple as it seems, is it? But you did help make Jeff's day...he's painting Wyatt's ceiling and walls and I shared your bathroom saga with him. So painting isn't so bad right now. :-)
